Rani Durgawaati Hospital was previously known as lady Elgin hospital and is still popularly know by this name the old Lady Elgin Hospital was situated in Miloniganj and was inaugurated on 7th May 1896 by his excellence Lord Elgin, The Viceroy and Governor General of India and her Excellency the countess of Elgin. Lady Elgin was well known for her interest in female health.

More About Hospital



The present Hospital Building was constructed around 1942 and in situated in the centre of Jabalpur City, next to High Court and very close to Railway Station. The Hospital Building is very old and was build much before the Medical College Hospital and used to be a teaching hospital. Medical College students were posted in this hospital for their training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. There is also a training centre attached to hospital where General Nursing Training and LHV Nurse Training is conducted. This is a separate building the main hospital building.

The Hospital building itself is building at two levels. Ground floor and first floor. There are one hundred and forty two beds distributed through 8 wards General Ward, 8 paying Wards, the Labour Room Complex and Neonatal Unit as well as Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC). The OPD complex is at the entrance of the building and consists of several rooms, Examination rooms for Gynaecology and pregnant Patients and Paediatric patients, an Urban Family planning Centre, full pathology laboratory, Blood Storage Unit, a dispensary and toilets for doctors and outdoor patients. The hospital is situated on the first floor and has three O.T. Rooms, a room for sterilization, o Surgeon room and store.

Since this Hospital is situated in the centre of the City it caters to large population living in the city as well as surrounding rural areas. The Patient who comes for treatment to this hospital is generally very poor and cannot afford private medical treatment. The Hospital also receives a large numbers of referred complicated patients from PHCs and CHCs.
